I’m assuming that you who read this article is also a foreigner in Japan just like me. Through this article, I’d like to share my experience with Elite Network and also with other agents I worked with.
I came to Japan in 1998 and after finishing my education at Osaka University, my first employer was Motor Corporation. I worked there for about 6 years. Afterward, I started my own company and run it for about one year before selling it.
I decided to join another company then.
There are basically two types of recruitment agencies you can find here in Japan. A big agency like Recruit and boutique agencies like Elite Network. I tried both type.
I can tell you that a big agency just want to get things done, quick and at bigger scale. So, they would not provide you with various type of opportunities. They will try to direct you to focus on opportunities they want to fill. Such opportunity mostly will match perfectly to your previous career. However, if you are thinking to broaden your career, big agencies are not your best choice.
For myself, I’d like to have career choices. So I looked for boutique agencies.
Most of boutique agencies were asking me what keywords that I have for my next job, or gave me available opportunities right at our first meeting. After that, they just sent me emails showing opportunities that match my keywords, and I was asked to pick those that interest me.
Somehow, it’s like searching job on the internet, but in this case, someone else do the search for me.
Then, I met Elite Network. It’s a completely different boutique agency.
At our first meeting, I was not presented with any job opportunities. Like any other agencies, my agent asked me some keywords that I have, but also, interestingly, he asked in details of my family condition, our plan for my kids education, where I’d like to work, etc. Questions that never been asked by previous agents.
It was in the second meeting, when I was presented with job opportunities that suits my life plan. And moreover, Elite Network agent really knows well the companies, that he can explain the ins and outs of the jobs as well as the working environment. That really shows that Elite Network agent has put some effort to gather information about their clients and get deeper understanding about them.
End of story, I got the job that I wanted, and my Elite Network agent surely helped to speed up the process. I felt that I had a good partner and surely will use Elite Network again in the future.
So, if you are looking for opportunities that suits both of your career AND life plan, I suggest you to have Elite Network as your partner.
